Citizen Initiative expresses its grave concern over numerous reports published in various media outlets and on social media regarding incidents of violence that have taken place in different parts of the country following the Thirteenth National Parliamentary Election. According to available information, allegations include at least one killing, as well as incidents of sexual violence, physical assault, arson, vandalism, looting, and other forms of abuse. We strongly and unequivocally condemn these acts.

Citizen Initiative believes that such incidents represent serious violations of citizens’ fundamental rights, including the right to life, personal security, dignity, and property. An election is a constitutional and institutional process. In the aftermath of a mass uprising and a long-anticipated national election, it is the fundamental responsibility of the state to maintain law and order and to ensure the safety and security of all citizens. Under no circumstances can violence, intimidation, or retaliatory actions against any individual or group be justified or tolerated.

The state has an obligation to promptly, impartially, and effectively investigate all allegations of human rights violations and to uphold the rule of law. In this regard, we call for an independent and impartial investigation into all reported incidents of post-election violence. Such investigations should be conducted in accordance with international human rights standards, ensuring the safety and confidentiality of victims and witnesses.

If allegations are substantiated, those responsible must be held accountable under existing laws, irrespective of their political identity or affiliation. At the same time, individuals and families affected by the violence must be provided with adequate protection, medical care, psychosocial support, and, where applicable, compensation and rehabilitation.

Citizen Initiative urges the relevant authorities to take immediate and effective measures to safeguard the lives, security, and dignity of all citizens. We call upon the state to fulfill its responsibilities and to ensure a peaceful and stable environment during this critical post-election transitional period.
