The Citizen Initiative expresses profound concern and strong apprehension regarding the recent call for ‘Red Terrorism’ made by Meghmollar Bosu, President of the Bangladesh Chatra Union’s Dhaka University chapter. At a time when Bangladesh is striving to heal from the trauma of the July massacre under the previous Awami fascist regime, such incendiary rhetoric represents a severe threat to the nation’s stability, security, and democratic progress.
In this fragile post-uprising period, where law enforcement agencies are already grappling with heightened challenges in maintaining law and order situation, any incitement to violence undermines peace and social cohesion. This dangerous narrative not only endangers the safety of our citizens but also risks tearing apart the societal fabric that holds us together.
Of particular concern is Mr. Bosu’s earlier statement advocating for an attack on the US Embassy, made in a separate post last year. Such reckless and provocative rhetoric from a political leader is unacceptable and jeopardizes both national security and Bangladesh’s international relations. We urge law enforcement agencies to take swift, decisive, and lawful action to prevent any potential acts of terrorism and to safeguard the peace and security of our nation.
We also call on all democratic and progressive political parties to unequivocally condemn this rhetoric and demonstrate a resolute commitment to rejecting violence in political discourse. Furthermore, we appeal to all democratic forces and concerned citizens to unite in peaceful solidarity against these threats, ensuring the stability and security of our beloved country.
Let us reaffirm our collective commitment to peace, democracy, and the rule of law, rejecting all forms of violence and terrorism that threaten our shared future.
