Citizen Initiative (CI) unequivocally protests at and condemns, in the strongest terms, the violent attack on the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Agartala, Tripura, India, in breach of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations. The vandalism and assault on several officials of the High Commission and the desecration of the Bangladeshi national flag represent a gross violation of diplomatic norms and protocols. These actions constitute a failure of the Indian state to ensure the safety and dignity of diplomatic missions under its jurisdiction. According to a report by the Hindustan Times, the attack was perpetrated by members of the Hindu Sangharsh Samity, an affiliate of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP). Such acts of violence not only undermine the principles of diplomacy but also jeopardize the relationship between neighboring nations.
CI calls on the Indian authorities to immediately beef up security measures for both the Bangladesh High Commission in Delhi and the Assistant High Commission in Agartala. We also demand immediate and decisive action to bring the perpetrators of this heinous attack to justice. Furthermore, we urge the Indian authorities concerned to take proactive steps to prevent any further violence against Bangladeshi diplomatic missions and ensure such incidents are not repeated in the future.
Respect for diplomatic sanctity is non-negotiable. Citizen Initiative stands in solidarity with the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission and urges all concerned parties to uphold the values of mutual respect and peace.
