According to information published in national newspapers, various video footage and statements from local residents show that many individuals who were actively involved in the attack have not been named in the case filed with the police. A large number of them are reportedly affiliated with the student wing of the ruling political party. On the other hand, there is also controversy surrounding the accused individuals who have been named, many of whom are allegedly linked to opposition political groups, as well as questions regarding their actual involvement in the crime. Naturally, this raises serious concerns among conscious citizens about whether the real perpetrators will truly be brought to justice.

At the same time, reports of incitement and efforts to gather people through social media prior to the incident are deeply troubling. This suggests that the violence may not have been a spontaneous outburst of anger, but rather a premeditated act. Yet labelling the incident simply as the action of an “unruly mob” weakens the path toward proper justice and accountability.

We firmly believe that under no circumstances can taking the law into one’s own hands be acceptable. Such incidents of mob violence and deaths resulting from public beatings expose the fragility of the rule of law in the country; something particularly alarming for a nation that is trying to begin a new democratic journey in the aftermath of the July Mass Uprising.

Citizen Initiative strongly urges the relevant authorities to conduct a neutral and transparent investigation. Those truly responsible must be identified and brought under the law based on video evidence and judicial proof. At the same time, the case must be reviewed carefully to ensure that no innocent person becomes a victim of harassment or false implication. Because without the rule of law, no society can ever truly become a fully democratic one.
